A good result has put City into the third round of the best knockout competition in the world. A good performance saw a 3-0 victory. The cardiff goalscorers were Rob Earnshaw, Gavin Gordon and Leo Fortune-West.
Cardiff started off brightly with right back Danny Gabbidon making good runs down the touchline. Gavin Gordon got close to scoring from one of these runs within the first few minutes.
The first goal came on 25 minutes with a good header from Cardiffs top scorer Rob Earnshaw. Scott Young got up well on the penalty spot and directed his header towards the left hand side of the penalty area, where Robert Earnshaw redirected it into the top corner of the net.
Port Vales first real chance came on 35 minutes when Mathew Carragher supplied a good cross that Stephen Brooker got up to head and was well saved by City keeper Neil Alexander.
However that seemed to spur Cardiff on because just 1 minute later Robert Earnshaw drilled in a right footed shot from 20 yards that was well saved by Vale keeper Mark Goodlad. Scott Young found the net on 39 minutes after a Willie Boland cross, but the goal was disallowed because he was well offside.
Gavin Gordon doubled the lead of the best team in Wales just 3 minutes into the second half after a complete cock up by the Port Vale keeper. This prompted chants of dodgy keeper by the bluebirds supporters.
Scott Young and Spencer Prior were very solid at the back for City and Scott Young thouroghly deserved his award for man of the match.
Gavin Gordon was replaced by Leo Fortune-West on 71 minutes, and the big man scored Cardiffs third goal just two minutes later with a shot from six yards.
