Leon Jeanne will leave Cardiff City after exhausting the patience of club officials.

The 21-year-old was subject to a random drugs test at the club's training ground on Monday and was said to have refused to provide a mandatory second.

If Jeanne is found guilty of refusing a drugs test by a Football Association of Wales commission - which will automatically be deemed a failure - then Cardiff will sack him immediately.

If the sample Jeanne did provide passes the test then Cardiff will not renew his contract, which runs out in July.

Jeanne already has a suspended two-year playing ban after testing positive for class A drugs last year.

But the former Wales Under-21 striker denies any wrong-doing: "The drugs test people let me go after the first sample. Then they rang me later and wanted me to go back and give a second sample.

"I had given them a sample and by the time I rang I was with my children in Newport. I told them I would give another sample, but I couldn't go back then.

If Jeanne were to be found guilty again it is likely that he would have to serve his suspended ban and then possibly faces a far longer sentence.

The suspended sentence was subject to strict rehabilitation conditions, which included an instruction for Jeanne to attended counselling for his alcohol and drug addiction.

Cardiff City chairman Sam Hammam had been determined to help steer the youngster away from trouble, making sure he attended a rehabilitation course at the Priory clinic. But now it seems that patience has run out.

Former Queens Park Rangers player Jeanne, who made only two league appearances for the Bluebirds, had signed a new contract on the morning of the drugs test.

But the contract had not been counter-signed by either chief executive David Temme or Hammam and that will not now happen.

In a financial climate where clubs are warning they will have to trim squads because of the loss of revenue from the defunct ITV Digital, Jeanne's football future looks bleak.

The club will release an official statement on Friday.
