Cardiff City's Leon Jeanne has protested his innocence after failing his second drug test in less than a year.
The 21-year-old was subject to a random drug test at the club's training ground on Monday and was said to have refused to provide a mandatory second.
By doing so, he is automatically deemed to have failed the test.
But the former Wales under-21 striker denies any wrong-doing.
He said: "The drugs test people let me go after the first sample. Then they rang me later and wanted me to go back and give a second sample.
"I had given them a sample and by the time I rang I was with my children in Newport. I told them I would give another sample, but I couldn't go back then.
"I am clean. I have not been taking drugs.
"I will fight this all the way and I am going today to get my own independent test at the doctors. That will be sent in immediately and they will see I was not afraid to give another sample," he told the South Wales Echo
The Football Association of Wales handed Jeanne a suspended two-year ban last December after he tested positive for a Class A drug.
But the leniency of the punishment was subject to strict rehabilitation conditions which included an instruction for Jeanne to attended counselling for his alcohol and drug addiction.
That prompted Cardiff City chairman Sam Hammam to praise the FAW for what he described as "humane" treatment of the promising player.
Hammam has since worked hard to steer Jeanne away from trouble.
Confident
But if he is found guilty of a second charge he could face up to 10 years out of the game when the FAW set up a commission of inquiry.
The club announced on Tuesday that they will not take any action against the player until the results of the drug test are known.
Ironically, Jeanne's career seemed to be back on track after he produced a sparkling display in Cardiff's FAW Premier Cup win over Swansea earlier this month.
After the match, the player sounded confident about his future with Cardiff.
"I can do this, I have to prove myself," said Jeanne.
"I'm not fit enough yet, but I'm going to work through the summer to make sure I return for pre-season ready to make the most of my chance."
