Director of football Lennie Lawrence has taken over the managers job after the resignation of previous manager Alan Cork. The decision was announced today:

Bluebirds chairman Sam Hammam blamed the high expectations of everyone at the club for his sudden departure.

The Lebanese businessman said: "Considering the amount of money spent on assembling the team and the 11 players bought under Alan Cork . . . this decision was inevitable.

"We really hope that Lennie will be able to achieve success with us because we've, on paper, a pretty strong team."

In a statement, Cork said: ""I am disappointed I cannot continue the job I started 18 months ago.

"We had the magnificent win over Leeds in the third round of the FA Cup, which has gone down in Cardiff history, and for me personally that showed we have the ability to go all the way."
